Obituary

In Loving Memory of Robert Peter “Roony” Oliveri

October 1, 1942 – May 30, 2026

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Robert Peter “Roony” Oliveri, who departed this life on May 30, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in Patchogue on October 1, 1942, Robert lived a life rooted in faith, family, service, and joy. Affectionately known as “Roony,” he was a larger-than-life presence whose infectious smile, unmistakable laugh, and generous spirit left an enduring mark on all who knew him.

Robert was raised in a devout Catholic household, the son of Italian immigrants whose faith and traditions shaped his upbringing. His early education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School was especially formative. He often spoke fondly of the nuns who helped shape his character, crediting them with instilling discipline, compassion, resilience, and humor—the qualities that defined the man his family came to love as Roony.

Robert graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany and later earned his Doctorate in Social Work from Nova Southeastern University.

He spent much of his life raising his family in Eastport, building a home filled with love, laughter, and strong values. He shared a devoted life with his beloved wife, Anne T. Oliveri, and was a proud and loving father to his sons, Christopher Oliveri and Kenneth Oliveri.

Robert is also survived by his siblings, Richard “Dick” Oliveri and Marcella Lavalle, along with extended family members who were part of his life’s journey.

A dedicated professional, Robert served as a social worker and later as a director within Suffolk County. His career reflected a lifelong commitment to helping others, advocating for those in need, and treating every person with dignity and compassion.

He also shared his knowledge and experience as an evening instructor at Dowling College, where he inspired students with his humor, wisdom, and real-world insight.

After retirement, Robert moved to Florida to enjoy a new chapter of life. He briefly lived in Lake Worth Beach before settling in Fort Pierce, where he spent much of his retirement enjoying friendship, sunshine, and peace. In later years, he also spent time in the Orlando area to remain close to family.

Robert’s Catholic faith remained a guiding force throughout his life, deeply rooted in the traditions of his Italian heritage and strengthened by his early formation at St. Joseph’s.

He was also a passionate cook who found great joy in preparing Italian meals for family and friends. His love for Italian cooking was taught to him by his mother, Lina Oliveri, and he carried those traditions forward with pride. His signature rice balls became a cherished expression of love, heritage, and togetherness.

Those who knew Roony will remember a man of extraordinary warmth and presence. He had a rare gift for storytelling, laughter that filled a room, and a heart that welcomed everyone without hesitation. He made people feel valued, seen, and loved.

Though his passing leaves a deep and lasting sorrow, his legacy endures through the lives he touched.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Anne T. Oliveri; his sons Christopher Oliveri and Kenneth Oliveri; his siblings Richard “Dick” Oliveri and Marcella Lavalle; and countless relatives, friends, colleagues, students, and community members whose lives were forever enriched by his presence.
