In Loving Memory of Robert Peter “Roony” Oliveri
October 1, 1942 – May 30, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Robert Peter “Roony” Oliveri, who departed this life on May 30, 2026, at the age of 83.
Born in Patchogue, New York, to Benedetto “Benny” Oliveri and Pasqualena “Lena” Oliveri, Robert grew up in a close-knit Italian-American family where faith, hard work, education, and family were treasured above all else. Raised in the Catholic faith, he carried the values and traditions instilled by his parents throughout his life.
Robert attended St. Francis de Sales Elementary School, where the guidance and discipline of the nuns helped shape his character from an early age. He often spoke fondly of their influence, crediting them with helping instill the compassion, resilience, humor, and strong moral foundation that would define the man everyone affectionately knew as “Roony.” He later attended Seton Hall High School, where he continued to develop the values of faith, service, and leadership that would guide him throughout his life.
Affectionately known as “Roony,” Robert was truly larger than life. His infectious smile, unmistakable laugh, quick wit, and generous spirit left an enduring mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Whether through a story, a joke, or a simple conversation, Roony brought warmth and joy wherever he went.
Committed to learning throughout his life, Robert earned his undergraduate degree from Dowling College, his master’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany, and later achieved his Doctorate in Social Work from Nova Southeastern University. His educational journey reflected his belief in personal growth, professional excellence, and service to others.
A passionate advocate for those in need, Robert devoted his professional life to social work. He served Suffolk County with distinction as a social worker and later as a director, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and the gratitude of countless individuals and families whose lives he touched. His work reflected his unwavering belief in the dignity of every person and his commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Robert also shared his knowledge and experience as an evening instructor at Dowling College, where he taught future generations of social workers. Known to many students and colleagues as Dr. Robert Oliveri, he was a respected professor whose wisdom, practical insight, humor, and ability to connect real-life experiences to the lessons he taught left a lasting impact. It brought him great pride to teach at the same institution where he had begun his own higher education journey.
Robert spent much of his life raising his family in Eastport, New York, where he built a home filled with love, laughter, strong values, and treasured memories. He shared a devoted life with his beloved wife, Anne T. Oliveri, whom he married on June 23, 1973. Together, they built a loving partnership that spanned nearly fifty-three years and was founded on faith, commitment, resilience, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and family. Robert was a proud and loving father to his sons, Christopher Oliveri and Kenneth Oliveri, and his family remained the center of his world throughout his life.
After retirement, Robert moved to Florida to enjoy a new chapter of life. He briefly resided in Lake Worth, Florida, before settling in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he spent most of his retirement years enjoying the sunshine, cultivating friendships, and embracing the rewards of a life well lived. In his later years, he returned to the Orlando area to be closer to family and loved ones.
Robert’s Catholic faith remained a guiding force throughout his life. Deeply rooted in the traditions of his Italian heritage, his faith shaped his compassion, humility, and lifelong commitment to service.
One of Robert’s greatest joys was cooking. From his mother, Lena, he inherited a love for Italian food and family traditions. He became especially known for his homemade rice balls, a cherished family recipe passed down through generations. Preparing meals for family and friends was one of the many ways he expressed his love. Around Robert’s table, no one ever left hungry, and everyone felt like family.
Those who knew Roony will remember a man whose laughter could fill a room and whose presence made every gathering brighter. He was a storyteller, a mentor, a teacher, a caregiver, and a friend. His generosity of spirit, compassion for others, and ability to find joy in life’s simplest moments made him unforgettable.
Among Robert’s greatest blessings was the life he shared with Anne. Their nearly fifty-three years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, family, friendship, and a steadfast commitment to one another that inspired everyone who knew them.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Benedetto “Benny” Oliveri and Pasqualena “Lena” Oliveri; his brother, Richard “Dick” Oliveri; and his sister, Marcella Oliveri.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne T. Oliveri; his loving sons, Christopher Oliveri and Kenneth Oliveri; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, former colleagues, students, and loved ones whose lives were forever enriched by his presence.
Though his passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who loved him, his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the lessons he taught, the traditions he preserved, and the love he shared so freely.
