Jeffrey Michael Lyons, age 53, of Orlando, FL, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, around 11 PM surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 10, 1973, in Albuquerque, NM, Jeff was the child of Harry Jay and Ilene Lyons. He spent his early childhood in Michigan before moving to Miramar, FL, at age 8, where he lived for the remainder of his childhood and teenage years. He graduated from Florida State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and then pursued a master's degree in the same field from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Jeff worked for over 25 years in the modeling and simulation industry and worked for Applied Research Associates for 20 years.
While attending Florida State, Jeff met the love of his life, Katie, and they married in Nov 1995. They were happily married for 30 years at the time of his death. They welcomed 4 children: Justine (1999), Christopher (2002), Megan (2005), and Carson (2008). Jeff was a devoted and loving father throughout his entire life.
Jeff was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two-year mission for his church in Antofagasta, Chile, where he learned Spanish and grew to love the culture and people.
Jeff spent much of his free time serving in his church. He was a beloved bishop, scoutmaster, and seminary teacher, known for his warm demeanor, teaching ability, and his fun-loving personality. Jeff made everyone with whom he interacted feel comfortable and loved.
Jeff enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He played the trumpet in high school and college marching bands and continued to play it on occasion at church. He loved woodworking and built several pieces of furniture that are still in his home today. He was an avid exerciser who ran several half marathons and a full marathon. He loved playing tennis and racquetball and played regularly with friends. He had many friends with whom he enjoyed spending time. Jeff is survived by his wife Katie; children Justine (Ben), Christopher, Megan, and Carson; siblings Jennifer, Emily, Laurie, Daniel, and Nathan; and father Jay. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ilene, who passed away a year prior.A service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 11 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1375 Woodbury Rd. Orlando, FL 32828
